Terms of Service

Before the project begins, I will meet with the client and the primary narrator in an initial session of getting to know each other. There is no charge for this consultation.  If both the client and the narrator choose to pursue a project, we will settle on a preliminary number of interviews. A deposit of $500 will be required prior to the first interview, with additional payments due as the process unfolds. We can schedule interviews to tale place over as long or short a time period as the client and narrator wish, but it is best to plan at least ten days between interviews to allow for transcribing and narrator review.  Allow roughly three months for completion of a full personal history project.  Some projects will require more time, some less.

The Client: The client is the person who has contracted and paid for the service.  The client might or might not also be a narrator.

The Narrator: This term refers to the person being interviewed and telling his or her story.  A narrator might or might not also be the client.

Subject Matter: The narrator ultimately determines the subject matter of each interview.  The client, if different from the narrator, may suggest or request that interviews be focused in a particular direction, but the narrator retains the right to address whatever material he or she wishes.  The interviewer will direct each interview through questions, but will always remain respectful of the narrator’s wishes regarding subject matter.

Confidentiality: During the process, The Storian will provide only the narrator with access to the initial transcripts; this is to protect the narrator’s confidentiality.  At any point through final review, the narrator retains the right to request that portions of the narrative be omitted.  The narrator may choose to share transcripts with others.

Voice Recordings: Copies of the voice recordings will not be made available.  This is to protect the confidentiality of the narrator, in the event that the narrator decides that some interview material will be omitted from the final version. Having this assurance allows the narrator total comfort in pursuing various trains of thought during the interview without worrying that his or her words will be made public.

Disclaimer: Any family genealogical information is printed as supplied by the client or the narrator(s).  Likewise, any information supplied by a narrator is accepted as that narrator’s memory.  The Storian does not vouch for the accuracy of any factual information, only for the accuracy of the recording, transcription, and editing.
